Mondi publishes 2009 Sustainability Report

Mondi, the international paper and packaging company, has released its 2009 sustainability report at http://ethicalperformance.com/reports/links/mondigroup-sustainability
Highlights include:
zero work-related fatalities for the first time, with a 16 per cent reduction in overall injury frequency rate and a 28 per cent cut in lost-time injuries
'best performer' on the JSE Socially Responsible investment index
introduced new 'carbon neutral' range of office paper and increased capacity for consuming recycled material by 40 per cent
all Mondi forests in South Africa and Russia now certified to FSC standards
voluntary HIV/AIDS counselling and testing offered to people working in Mondi forests.
The report shows that annual carbon dioxide emissions are down by approximately 12 per cent since 2004. Against what is describes as a 'challenging' economic backdrop, Mondi also reveals that social investment and charitable donations totalled 9.3 million euro during the year, across a range of sectors such as healthcare, education, environment, and culture.
Mondi, which has production operations across 31 countries and had revenues of 5.3 billion euro in 2009, was last year included in the FTSE4Good UK, Europe and Global indices for the third year running.
