Cosmetics company L'Oréal has published its 2009 Sustainable Development Report in the form of an integrated website, http://www.sustainabledevelopment.loreal.com
The report outlines 'The L'Oréal Spirit', which forms the framework for the company's policies on corporate governance, environmental stewardship, health and safety, social affairs and diversity, supplier relations, sustainable innovation, consumer responsibility and philanthropy.
The company says: 'One should not confuse ethics with a "politically correct" collective posture, which is aligned with the specific moral criteria of its time. Ethics should not be limited to solemn declarations, but be based on daily behaviour that reflects the values of society and fully respects the various cultures.
'Thus, over the past century, we have built our development on three fundamental values: respect, integrity and the pursuit of excellence. One should also understand that ethics is a fundamental pillar of the sustainable development of an enterprise, not only across markets, but also across societies. When turned into actions, it creates confidence and trust.'
