Sainsbury's has published its Corporate Responsibility Report 2010 at http://www.jsainsburys.co.uk/cr
Following feedback from stakeholders, this year's full report is only available online and is supported by a pocket-sized summary review that contains top-line information about Sainsbury's work on corporate responsibility.
There is also a new 'hot topics' section on the website that will provide regular updates on topical issues and allows users to provide their thoughts and feedback. Additionally, Sainsbury's now provide quarterly CR updates alongside the company's financial trading reporting.
The report shows that during the year Sainsbury's:
became the world's largest retailer of Fairtrade, responsible for £1 in every £4 spent on Fairtrade in the UK
became the largest retailer of RSPCA monitored Freedom Food, with sales of more than £143million and 62 per cent of its market share
continued reformulation to reduce the levels of salt, sugar and fat across its product range - including re-launches of the 'Be Good to Yourself' healthy range and the 'Freefrom' allergy and intolerance range
offered the largest range of MSC fish compared with all other UK retailers
was ranked as the number one European retailer for sustainable palm oil by WWF in its Palm Oil scorecard
awarded an industry leading 'A' rating in the 'Green to the Core?' survey by Consumer Focus for their customer engagement on green issues, their sustainable farming and fish policies and the high proportion of sustainable products available.
The report also notes that throughout the year more than 10,000 employees were provided with skills development through the company's You Can programme - and outlines Sainsbury's commitment as the first and only Paralympic sponsor of the 2012 London Games.
